night had woken Mike when the rain had
come through the hopper window and dripped on his head. Up at 9 a.m. and went
to the post office in Liebenwalde before driving to Finowfurt and shopping at
Real (we’d forgotten it was there - it was closer than Kaufland) got a crate of
beer for Bill, who was getting to grips with his PC and doing some letters.
Called at an ATU and had two new front tyres fitted, Michelins at 55€ each
plus ten each for fitting. He'd wanted Continentals, but they’d only got one in
stock! Also bought a new cover for the moped (19,95€) - at long last! Back home
at 2.30 p.m. Had a late

lunch then Mike bought some more bio-diesel
from the service station in Zerpenschleuse. Bill said he could do with two
weeks next to a 240v electricity supply, and a supply of beer, so he could sort
out his new PCs. I got on with the chores. Prepared a stirfry for dinner, which
we ate when it was cooler, late at 8 p.m. A small cruiser arrived, late, and
moored in front of our bows after clouting the front of our boat as it went for
the bank. Mike went out and asked if they’d damaged their boat. Blank looks!
We’ll get their paint off our hull later!

14.9° C Rain in the night. Sunshine and heavy showers. It
was still raining when we got up, late again. Bill started his engine up at 11.15 am to
charge his batteries. Mike went by car to the Plus to get some milk, which we
forgot to get the day before. Lunch. I put the Mac on and started catching up
with my boat log. Mike took Bill to see the ruined 12c brick-built kloster (monastery) church at
Chorin. There was a concert in progress so they couldn’t go inside. Then they
went to see the concentration camp at Sachsenhausen. Mike said it hadn't changed
much, just a new entrance and labels were now in English and German. They
noticed people had got headphones to have a commentary while they looked around
the exhibits in the museum. I’d been volunteered to dogsit Fanny while they were
away. She was no real trouble, but cried every now and again and kept looking
to go out. I gave up on the computer at 5.45 p.m. did the chores and when Mike
returned at 6.30 p.m. I cooked fish and chips for dinner. When I went out to
put the genie off, the mist
was rising off the lake, it stank of rotting weed
and sewage. The mooring had filled up and three boats were on the lock island,
two cruisers and a shiny newly-built smart Swiss tjalk called Diogenes from
Basel - about 25m long, it even had radar.

7.6° C chilly! No wonder the
canal was steaming! Sunny and warm. The cruisers were all setting off as we got
up. The tjalk left at ten. Mike went to help Bill change his alternator pulley
for a smaller one. When he realised how much work he would have to do to make
the one he’d got fit - the centre boss was too thick and the hole was too small
Mike suggested an angle grinder and found him a large diameter drill, but Bill
decided not to bother and put the old one back. Mike started the genie up at
10.30 am to watch the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix. Chicken saté with mashed
potatoes for dinner. We put the new cover on the fizzer and recycled the rubber
hooked straps off the old one.
